Captains Appreciated
Not even a wet weekend could blindside Local League Coordinators' efforts to thank Pinellas USTA League captains for their part in growing tennis. Nearly 100 captain and co-captains attended this month's celebration at East Lake Woodlands.
According to LLC Ruth Ann Ott, when rain eliminated the planned team tennis play, winners were determined by a coin toss as can occur in USTA tournament competition. Awards were presented to teams and players then enjoyed an evening of ELW-catered food.
Area clubs provided 36 items to be raffled, with the top prize a night's stay at the Vinoy.
LLCs coordinating the event were Ruth Ann, Carol Levin, Clark Higgs, Dave Foster, Lynne Norring and Tom Johnson. Other volunteers included Ruby Johnson, Sandy DeLosh, Janet Loomis and Judy and Pat Siracusa. Suncoast Tennis Foundation executive director Judy Foster and here husband Nic assisted with registration.
